Well, it's that time of year again........the time when we all feel like kids again at the thought of truckloads of candy and sweets and the idea of dressing up as ANYTHING we could possibly dream up! Add to that the smell of Autumn in the air and the result is simply magical.......
Anyhoo, I LOVE Halloween and have TONS of ideas for crafts this year, so come back soon!
In the meantime.......lemme show you how to make this awesome craft I made with cool glowing paint and cute glitter bats. Cool huh?
Anyhoo, I started off with a 16 inch pizza tray from Walmart.....which only cost a few bucks. That was waaaaaayyyyyy cheaper than ANY round wooden plaque I could find ($8-$14 bucks), oddly enough. Plus, the rounded bottom gives great dimension to the moon.
I sprayed it well with a white primer.....and then took some grey paint and sponged it on to try and give it a cool "moon-y" look. Don't worry if you don't get it perfect (like me :).....you can cover the splotchy parts with the bats. Actually.....I DID like the way it turned out, pretty "moon-ish"
To finish.......paint on a few coats of super-cool glow-in-the-dark paint. I got mine here and got a bunch of different colors (each one glowing for a different amount of time......The white, purple, and orange only glow for a few hours and the other 3 glow at least 10-15 hours!).
I wanted to use white and luckily this kind of paint is clear in daylight and glows in darkness. I Painted on 3 coats to make sure it works well.

I got these cute glittery foam bats last year on clearance and just attached them onto the front with foam adhesive to add a little more dimension.
Ta da!!! Totally spooky huh?
Here it is hanging on the front door.
And for extra cool effect outside (since the glow isn't the greatest outside due to street lamps and such)......I replaced our porch light with a sweet blacklight I picked up at WallyWorld. It's an energy efficient one, so it should last for years!
If you don't want to do the glowing paint.....you can do the regular paint and the blacklight should still help it glow nicely ;)
Want to make your own? Well, leave me a comment and tell me what you would like to make glow in (or around) your house and I'll send you 3 jars of glow-y paint to make your very own cool Halloween stuff!!! You can even pick your colors!!!
Ready.....go!!
Have fun and good luck......you can leave comments till midnite on Sunday the 11th!!

Glowing pumpkins would be fun...or window cats with glowing eyes.
ReplyDeleteOh, no freaking way. That's way cool. And I love that your porch is already halloween'd up, haha. I'd paint myself some spooky pumpkins first, I think. Maybe some eyes! Yeah! Some eyes to put in the windows like eyes peering out of the woods!
ReplyDeleteThat paint is awesome!
ReplyDeleteActually, my son requested that I make him a glow-int-the-dark skeleton costume this year, so I'd try that first!
I would make a glow in the dark cat to be by my front door.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I made a milk jug skeleton last year that would look so cool glowing in the dark!

Ohhhh, I think I would make glow-y hanging bats and ghosts...so fun and spooky :) Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMy boys would freak out if I made their swords glow! They would think this was the coolest... which would make me the coolest!
ReplyDeleteThat's so awesome!!!! I love that idea! I might just copy it! :) Or I'd make glowing ghosts and hang them from trees outside! That'd be so fun! I love Halloween!!
ReplyDeleteSo fun! If this paint can be used on clothes(and is washable) I would LOVE to make some halloween pj's for my kids. What a great way to fall asleep!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I don't know what I would make! Too many ideas! Probably some ghosts or something though.
ReplyDeleteHow fun and what a great idea! I think that I would do the same type of thing, but use a paper lantern. I would also make something "mummy" like and paint crepe paper and then attach it to a square plaque! Thanks for the chance to win!!!!

I love it! We like to go pretty gross for Halloween around here. This year, we're having a party and setting up a "murder scene" in our living room. Our original plan was to set it up with fake blood etc, but it'd be much cooler with black lights showing "trace" evidence. Yeah...HUGE Dexter fans here. I'm sure I could think of COUNTLESS other crafts as well...like painting stars on our kids' ceiling...
ReplyDeleteI am thinking glow in the dark eyes that can be painted on windows. If it can't be washed off then they could be painted on some kind of clear plastic and stuck to windows. How creepy to see glowing eyes out your window.
ReplyDeleteFABU! I love the pizza pan idea and I agree- the blotchy grey looks very moony- too smooth and it would just be a grey circle. I'd like to try doing some different types of pumpkins this year- glittery, glowy, etc. Of course, I may have to paint a pizza pan now too. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm working on a slideshow about Halloween crafts you can create with kids for TLC's Parentables website. May I have your permission to use a picture and link back to your post?
ReplyDeleteSincerely,
Brittany aka Pretty Handy Girl
i'd love this paint...so many options! i love your door hanging, though, and would certainly make one for my door! Spooky!

Glowing skulls, pumpkins, and anything else for Halloween and Glowing jewelry or headbands for my girls that love anything that glows in the dark(last year for xmas "santa" had to bring them shirts that glowed in the dark Santa had fun making those once he figured out how to do it) :0)
ReplyDeleteI would make the gravestones glow in the dark in the graveyard we put out for Halloween.
ReplyDeleteLove your batty project. I actually am a huge bat fan and have my own bat house with 100+ bats living in it. I wonder if you could swirl the glow-in-the-dark paint inside some interesting shaped bottles to make it look like they contain glowing potions?
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Lorilee
I would make a planetarium on my boys' bedroom ceiling. Not very Halloweeny, but I think it would be cool to do colorful planets, stars and galaxies that my boys can only see at night.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and daughter made a wooden full-sized old-looking coffin for Mr. Bones (the skeleton man) and he could use some glow in the dark items. They really get into Halloween fun. Love your door project!
ReplyDeleteThat paint is fabulous! I found your blog through Stumbleupon, and I'm going to add you to my Google Reader. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy son is obsessed with stars, I would probably paint some stars on his ceiling! great idea, btw!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, just pinned this! LOVE it!! :) I've been wanting a good reason to try the glow-in-the-dark paint and this is it! So fun!
